Do you think network administrators rely too much on firewalls and not other protective measures for a client/?
I know that a lot of administrators make foolish mistakes either because they have no other choice or because they mess up. The most common mistakes is using low quality software like what is issued by Symantec. Firewalls are the basic protection systems that are employed in almost any network especially when combined with SPI Firewalls and NAT devices. The other common tools relied on are Proxies, VPN tunnels, Wi-Fi encryption, IDS (Intrusion Detection System), IPS (Intrusion Prevention System), RADIUS, etc. Firewalls are the most commonly seen because they are easy to deploy and setup and cost the least. If every IT department had unlimited funds I am sure they would all use every available technology to defend themselves.
